The Canteen

I want to remember our canteen with it's wonderful staff, ample capacity and with an ornate Parquet floor and windows that allowed fully opening, a feature that came in very handy during the several months of very hot weather in 1976.

A sliding partition at one end allowed privacy for visiting executives.

By any standards the dairy canteen was excellent and I'm not just saying that because my sister-in-law worked there either.

Run by Victor Ayre , (Freddy called him "Victor Wind") and later by Jeff Baum & Rolf Ashton, the food was varied and of superb quality.

To this day my favourite remains Shepherd's Pie and Chips and there was always plenty of it.

To all of you who worked there and gave us super grub I dedicate this page to you.
